Couples Therapy for Partners in CA, who still care, but have run out of ways to say it.

Something shifted, and you're not sure when. The conversations turned into arguments or stopped altogether. You love each other, but lately it doesn't feel like enough. This is exactly where therapy can help.

What is really happening underneath

You're not fighting about the dishes.

You know that, even if it doesn't feel like it in the moment. The argument is rarely about what it's actually about. And underneath all of it is something quieter and harder to say.

  • You feel more like roommates than partners
  • One of you shuts down while the other pushes harder, and neither approach is working
  • You've had the same fight so many times you can finish each other's sentences, and not in a good way
  • Trust was broken, and you don't know if it can come back
  • You're staying together for the kids, but you're not sure how much longer you can keep doing it like this
  • You love them. You're just not sure you like each other anymore.
And the scariest part? You're not sure whether to fight for this or let go. You don't have to make that decision alone

"We came in thinking we needed to figure out who was 'right.' We left with the tools to actually hear each other. I didn't think that was possible after the year we'd had."

Hi, I'm Kristina Wallace, LMFT

For over 15 years, I've worked with couples navigating the most complex moments of thier lives. I know how heavy these patterns feel because I've spent my career helping people unpack them.

Relationships are the most significant part of our human experience, yet we are rarely given the tools to maintain them when things get hard. My goal is to provide you with the clinical expertise, and warm, human presence you need to find clarity.

My Approach

The Gottman Method

This approach is grounded in over 40 years of research with thousands of couples. It provides practical, concrete tools to manage conflict, increase friendship, and create shared meaning. We use these interventions to help you build the 'Sound Relationship House' brick by brick.

Emotionally Focused Therapy

EFT is based on the science of adult attachment. We look at the 'dance' or 'cycle' you get stuck in. By identifying the underlying emotional needs—like the need to feel safe, valued, or heard—we can change the music of that dance, leading to deeper connection and lasting change.

FAQs

Questions people usually have...

Do we really need therapy? We're not in crisis.

You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from couples therapy. Many couples come in because they want to address patterns before they become bigger problems, or because they want to reconnect before the distance grows. If something feels off, that's reason enough.

How long does couples therapy take?

It depends on what you're working on and how things progress. Some couples notice real shifts within 8 to 12 sessions. Others benefit from longer-term work, especially when trust has been broken or patterns are deeply established. We'll check in regularly on where you are.

We tried therapy before and it didn't help. Why would this be different?

That's a fair question, and I'd rather you ask it than pretend it away. A lot of couples have had unhelpful therapy experiences. Sometimes the fit was wrong. Sometimes the approach didn't match the problem. I'd encourage you to share what didn't work before so we can approach things differently. Past experience with therapy is good information, not a closed door.

What does couples therapy cost, and do you accept insurance?

Session fees are $200 per session. I am [in-network / out-of-network] with [insurance provider], and I can provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement. Reach out and I'm happy to discuss what options are available to you.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is typically a joint session where both partners are present. We'll talk about what brought you in, what each of you is hoping for, and how therapy will work. I may also schedule individual sessions early in the process to hear each person's perspective separately before we come back together.

Is couples therapy only for married couples?

Not at all. I work with dating partners, long-term unmarried couples, engaged couples, and couples navigating separation. What matters is the relationship, not the legal status.
